The scent is a bit strong if you put it to your nose and smell it, but if you put it in the pod case and leave it somewhere inconspicuous, it gives just the right amount of scent. I suppose it absorbs odor as well, but I have been using these in conjunction with activated bamboo air purifying bags. We have two cats in the house full-time, and our dog comes in when there's bad weather, or he's cold, or he's too hot, or he misses us, or we miss him ... He may be somewhat spoiled. Anyway, even with keeping the litter box clean and washing the dog at regular intervals, there's still an odor associated with having pets in the house.
