They work well with acrylics and hold up over the years. But be weary of ordering online. Have never had issues in the past, I’ve ordered several on here and they’ve always been well packaged. For whatever reason my last one came in a bubble mailer. Doesn’t take a rocket scientist to figure out that basswood isn’t exactly a hardwood and easily dents or damages if dropped or tossed around. The wood is very smooth and accepted stain around the outside edges beautifully. I used it to mount a watercolor painting. First I covered it with acrylic matte medium and pressed the finished painting onto the surface. I used a roller to get all bubbles out. When it was dry, I trimmed the excess paper. Then I sprayed a couple coats of fixative over the painting. Finished with four coats of wax.
