There is a sticker on the back that you'll have to peel off, and some writing also that can come off with some fine sandpaper. Worst case scenario is that you'll have to sand a little bit off it and refinish. But I decided to sand off everything and repaint before refinishing. I ended up also drilling a hole to put a command coin in there, and some small holes for rank insignia. The type of wood that the paddle was made of was easy to work with, and didn't crack when placed under the drillpress.
