Review: Sturdy and quality - I eat a lot of potatoes. I oven baked them. I was tired of cutting them myself, making them all misshapen and then having them cook unevenly. So, I got this french fry cutter to save time and effort. First off, this cutter is very sturdy and it’s also big, as in it takes up a lot of counter space. It’s marketed as a commercial use cutter so that makes sense. It has considerable weight to it, everything is metal, most of the parts look CNC machined which is great for durability and longevity. The suction cups work fine for my use case to hold the cutter in place, although there is a little bit of movement if you try to operate it without something bracing the base. Assembly was very straight forward, but I did need a couple crescent wrenches to tighten down some of the nuts and bolts. The power is strong, much better than any other cutter I’ve used. The cutter sliced through russet potatoes with relative ease, it did take a little more force than I was expecting since watching some of the videos made it seem like it would slice through potatoes like warm butter, but it still doesn’t take that much force. The video I posted shows me cutting with one hand which was a little awkward, but using two hands with one bracing the front slightly made cutting very easy. I would expect this to work well if mounting to something where there’s no movement at all in the base of the cutter. The bladed area is pretty large, so you could get a huge potato in there or some other vegetable if you so choose. I chose the 3/8inch blade but apparently you can get others to swap out to a different size if you want. I suspect the blades will be the only part on this that will ever need to be replaced once they go dull from use. Removing the blade for cleaning was pretty easy. You just undo some wing nuts and take it off, wash/clean it and put it back in reverse order. I could see how this would be cumbersome if you’re washing it after every single use which is probably what I’m going be doing. So we’ll see how that goes. Overall, this cutter is expensive, but it’s very sturdy and I expect it to last a long time because of how it’s constructed. It’s easy to use, it’s powerful, and it saves a lot of time and effort. I’d recommend buying this, knowing you probably will never need to buy another cutter again.
Review: Solid, functional, a professional-grade tool - This French Fry cutter works beautifully, with a few caveats. It produces lots of fries with minimal effort (hint: use older potatoes for better flavor and easier cutting). I like to soak the cut potatoes for at least 30 minutes in water with a capful of plain vinegar added. This helps draw out the starch (the water will be cloudy). This is followed by two cooks in peanut oil, one at low temp to cook the fries through, then one at high temp for crispiness. Season immediately with salt and/or BBQ rub to your preference. The cut fries are perfectly formed. Your results with proper technique will be better than anything at a drive-thru, and way-way-way less expensive. I find the machine simple to clean. The cutter blade is easily removed with 3 thumbscrews (hint: have a small bowl handy to keep the thumbscrews and lock washers together). I soak the cutter blade in a bowl of soapy water, and then use a sink sprayer and vegetable brush to make sure all the potato gunk is cleaned out. It's a 30-second job. The body of the cutter generally needs only to be wiped off with a damp cloth. You can replace the cutter and matching pusher with a different size if you wish to make different size fries. Those users who are complaining that the suction cups are too strong should note that a small rubber column on the cup can be pulled up to release the vacuum. I like having the strong attachment, as I usually cut fries on my smoothtop range and don't want the cutter sliding around. If you don't like the suction cups, take them off and mount the cutter to a piece of plywood or install it vertically on your wall. It's also handy to have a shallow bowl ready to catch the fries as they come out. Put the cut fries immediately into water to avoid darkening. Two design weaknessses: First, if you're not careful removing the cutter blade, it's easy to have the cutter seem to fall apart and be confusing to re-assemble. The more you do it, the less this is likely to happen. Second, it's possible to mount the cutter blade backward. Pay attention, people–the sharp side needs to be the one in contact with the potato! Some of the folks complaining it's too hard to push the potato through the cutter have the blade mounted backward, as the machine is designed to give you a big mechanical lever advantage against the poor defenseless potato. This a pro-style cutter, the same one I used in culinary school, and will hold up forever.

## Questions & Answers

**Q: Can it handle sweet potatoes being cut into fries?**
A: Organic Jewle and Garnets cut easier as there higher in sugar less fibrous and easier to cut with a knife Besides they taste SO MUCH better than regular fibrous stringy supermarket and conventional ones
If that doesn't work nuke 30 or so seconds a piece test it if difficult stop nuke a bit more If you don't use a microwave boil a big pot of water boil each one at a time 30- 60 seconds dunk it cold water to stop cooking
Also peel.them first the skins tough and hard to even peel.off
Buy straight not bulbous ones slice ends off flat you can.cook those as is too no need to waste
Remember that these are not built really to cut Sweets yams there for softer white varieties and blue yellow red skinned
And softer vegetables Eggplants good zucchini carrots might need pretrial as you'll have to buy large wider ones
Then soak all potatoes in cold water swish around every few minutes change water to wash off gluey starch set in fridge if warm they can ferment finally dry well
If frying in oil black in hot oil in batches till light but not cooked all the way remove to drain on paper towels paper brown bags and let get cold do a whole batch you can.put in fridge chill them Rrheat oil then retry till golden brown drain put in 200 degrees oven to keep warm till all fried don't over crowd pot don't over FIL pot pan with oil! You should have the best crunchy golden fluffy inside fries with the double fry method
4 fry ovens toss with a little oil herbs fresh are best added when done they'll burn b4 when half done shake n continue till done and as dark as you like watching carefully
Toss with fresh chopped herbs fresh ground black ⚫ pepper n salt serve immediately

**Q: How long of a potato can you cut in this thing?**
A: With the cutter fully opened it measures approx. 6 1/2" from back of the cutting blade to front of the pusher block..

**Q: Is this easily set up and used with 1 hand, like for a stroke victim with 1 strong arm/hand??**
A: It works really well the suction cups hold it to a surface so you can easily use it with one hand, but it still takes some force to push the potato thru..But then the trick is to remove it. The suctions cups really really hold it down, its tough with 2 hands to get it off the counter due to the suction.

**Q: how long of potato and how round**
A: The product will take anything up to the diameter of the cutter area, approximately 3.5" wide. You can go up to 5-6" long, which is the opening of the potato resting area with the handle all the way up. Keep Physics in mind if you're after loooong fries...the higher the handle, the more effort needed to push the potato through the cutter -- It works great! Made 4 lbs of fries on Christmas Day, yummy!!

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Perfect Fries Every Time.
*by C***F on July 10, 2014*

Really great french fry cutter. I was sick of mucking about with a knife trying to get a consistent size and with this thing it's a piece of cake. The packaging was a little lackluster, It was a cardboard box and some foam inserts. The box looked a little beat up when I got it but all the parts were pristine when I opened it up. Granted this thing is 100% heavy metal so to do any damage it'd probably have to get dropped off a moving truck and then get run over by a different truck. Also no real instruction but the only thing you have to put on is the lever. To install the handle reomve the long bolt in the very back of the cutter. Place the lever behind the cutter with hand grip pointing away from the unit and the smaller hole up. Line of the back set of holes of the lever in between the holes you removed the long bolt from reinsert the bolt, and tighten down the nut creating the pivot point. Next there should be two metal braces that lead to the pressing plate. Remove the nut and bolt from these braces, raise the lever up so you can sandwich it between the two braces, reinsert and tighten the bolt. It should now slide smoothly back and forth. The cutter is rather large about 1.5 ft long and 1 ft high with the handle attached so it's going to take up some cabinet space The suction cups (which bolt in and you can finger tighten in place) are STRONG. I tried them on a normal counter top, tile, and wood (like a butchers block). They had no problem sticking to anything smooth and nonporous but the wood surface didn't work to well so anything like granite or a varnished counter should be fine. For how they actually cut the potatoes? Nothing was easier. I cut up Russets and it took my about 30 seconds to cut 6 potatoes perfectly and evenly. Clean up isn't bad but you will have to break out a screw drive the remove the pushing plate so it can be properly washed (skins tend to get a little stuck in it). Remove the three front wingnuts and take the cutting grid off. Remove the pushing plate by unscrewing the two screws in the back. Once both those pieces are off you can remove the metal chute where the potato sits. Those get scrubbed and washed and the rest of the cutter gets wiped down since the frame doesn't touch the food at all. It's a tad pricey but the incredibly solid construction means it'll last a life time. Plus you can but a bunch of other plates to make different sizes and such.
