I use for aquarium water, for mixing fertilizer for house plants and with my herb garden auto-watering setup (sorry, just cooking herbs, not the more lucrative crops of today) :)The vent is not drilled, so if you don't want a vent, you don't have to have it. But it does come with a vent cap in case you do.The main cap is also not drilled. However, it is threaded for a spigot, if you decide you would like to use that way. I have several of these in a rack with spigots, to dispense pre-mixed water for aquaria. But it would also work for camping to put water on a table with a spigot to dispense, etc., since they are food-safe.Long lasting and they do what they are intended to do.
