Ur in the end just lifting rather than say bleaching to add a more vibrant cor to ur natural sometimes with box u would use bleach then apply for this purpose same type deal only it's the developer doing it much easier and kinder to ur hair in generally but u adjust the dev # up or down based on how much u need to bleach for a box dye example but here it's dev that's trying to lighten u so med brown I use 60 and it's not healthy for ur hair by no means just a bit better compared to bleach I think my hair feels diff not as fried to b extreme a bit oversggrrsted but u get the point hopefully. If I dye hair too dark then the only solution a lot of the time is to (a) try to lift it out right after by washing with baking soda, dish detergent, etc. or (b) vitamin C wash. Some even do a bleach bath and then re-dye. It all depends on how damaged your hair is.
