You can even have multiple devices on one X10 address, so you can control many many different devices with this one remote. The HR12A even has dimming functions so you can dim dimmable lighting with a dimmable X10 switch or module. This controller is RF (Radio Frequency) and does not require any type of line of sight to operate. he HR12A is a wireless controller. In order for the signal to reach all the X10 modules, it does require at least one Wireless Transceiver for your home. The TM751 Wireless Transceiver is our most popular one. The previous one lasted 8 years. The soft switches require a constant battery drain. The typical failure mode is where the negative battery end touches the connector. Corrosion accumulates there, which can be cleaned up with cheap emery board. Previous versions used a spring to hold the battery in place. This version uses a more robust leaf spring that should be easier to clean off and maybe even last a bit longer. I'm old school and prefer to repair rather than discard and replace. I would like to move on to newer technology, but the X10 lamp module has one feature I have not seen anywhere else. The attached lamp can be turned on by simply turning the switch on the lamp from on to off and then back to on. The lamp module senses the disconnection and will turn on without using any remote controller. This is very valuable when living with an Alzheimer's patient. Note that the lamp module requires an incandescent bulb, which are now banned. So these lamp modules will be useless soon. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ X-10 home automation still works great, but the products are getting hard to find *by M***Z on June 13, 2013* This is a replacement for the hand-held remote usually sold with an X-10 receiver module. It's just a simple radio transmitter: the receiver module has an antenna that picks up the signals from the remote, and sends them into your home's wiring where other X-10 modules expect them. After several years of use, a couple of switches had gone bad on my old remote, and I needed a replacement. But I couldn't find just the hand-held remote sold separately. Many stores sold the combo with the receiver module, but the combo was expensive and I didn't need another receiver module. Then, the last time I went looking for X-10 modules, I couldn't find ANY locally! Neither Radio Shack nor Fry's nor Lowe's seems to sell them any more. Apparently, home automation is going out of style. Luckily several Amazon.com sellers do still sell them, and some had the remote available separately, so I was finally able to replace my remote with this model. It looks a bit different than the old one, which had rocker switches instead of push buttons.
