The speedloaders are molded plastic devices. They are ample for hand-loading 9mm rounds into their respective magazine. The speed loader is a brace that allows one to manually compress the magazine's internal spring so that rounds may be dropped into the magazine. To be fair, I like the simplicity of the device and its low cost. I would raise one caution with this product. Smith & Wesson manufactures a variety of semi-automatic handguns, each with its own proprietary magazine. My experience is that there is little interchangeability with these magazines. So, it is vital that you determine what your specific model is before ordering one of these speedloaders. I wish I could have given myself this advice before I purchased the kit, because none of the three loaders in this kit work with my pistol's magazines.
