I wondered if the Deft Brightner would really do anything, but the Defy Stain said to use the Brightener to neutralize the wood cleaner. What amazed me was that the Brightener took the wood from a clean but slightly weather look to wood that looked like it had just been delivered from the mill. I would answer Yes use the Brightener for cleaner wood and a better stain. **Q: My ipe screen porch floor is graying where there is no rug. Will this bring it back to the dark color?** A: No in fact it might make it brighter. It's not going to bring the color back but more just cleaning the wood before you re-stain. **Q: Can this be used on a redwood fence to remove mold? With our drought, I prefer not to power wash.** A: I used this product on a cedar deck that hadn't been cleaned since the mid 1990's. The amount of organic debris that came off was truly stunning. Follow directions and use youtube videos for 'how to.' I called the manufacturer and found them to be very helpful, too. I used the 'brightener' afterwards - an acid that lightens the wood and neutralizes the ph. That is important, too. I cannot vouch that the product is good for redwood, but I'd imagine it is. I would read-up or call the manufacturer to make sure. As a chemistry major and rookie at 'cleaning' wood decks, I couldn't be happier with my decision using Defy products.
