He sits 13 inches from the top of his head to his butt. He has very soft fur and seems very huggable. As other reviewers had noted, I let him fluff out a little bit and gave him a good shake to rearrange his stuffing. When you get him, he is very compressed inside a plastic bag. I got him through Amazon smile so I could support my charity, otherwise I would have ordered him directly from VTBI also brushed through his hair with my hand oh, there was a lot of loose hair but no more than to be expected. I really appreciate the Vermont Teddy Bear lifetime care. This is a great elephant, not too big and not too small. He has a nice, benign expression. I bought him as a gift for myself. I love elephants, he's great. Yes, he's not cheap but sometimes you get what you pay for!The elephant's name is Tina, BTW!UPDATE: I bought the giraffe directly from Vermont Teddy Bear a few weeks ago.
