Review: Poor packaging - I like the product thus far. It is amazing that the contents of the can stayed in the can as it was so dented that I had to buy a new can to store after I opened it. Very poorly packaged for shipment.
Review: Australian Timber Oil to the Rescue. I love this OIL-based stuff. Not the new-fangled water-based. - Photos show a 10-year neglected deck before and after. I bought the house and found a half-empty gallon of Australian Timber Oil in the basement. Granted, I needed to replace many of the badly rotted deck boards but I used regular yellow pine 5/5 X 6 lumber instead of the original mahogany. Imagine neglecting a mahogany wood deck. The (kept) boards were scrubbed with hot water/peroxide/baking soda and light power wash down then allowed to dry for three days of sun before staining (the new boards were stained on the sides as they were installed). First coat was with roller. I waited a few days (the old boards soaked it up right away but the new wood needed some time to lose it's tackiness) Second coat with brush- gets more coverage. Here are two photos; first one shows most of the deck after and the first one shows the difference on the steps. The kicker: Of course I needed more stain than what was left in the can in the basement. So I went to ordered more from desertcart and all was well. Then I needed more but it took three weeks so I went instead to Aboffs and ordered the same stain (which they do not carry or sell the brand) and got it in one day. It was the "blue label" and water-clean up not mineral spirits clean up. That told the whole story. To their credit they took it back no problem even a long time later. I ordered more from desertcart and this time the shipping was two or three days not three weeks. I ordered even more to have it on hand since in my state it is "no longer legal" to sell the oil-based version. Ain't that a kick in the head. But then again... you know the story when it comes to you know what...

**Q: I just finished applying it to a new deck and it appears really dirty where people walk. What do I do?**
A: My house is part of a condo association and they applied this product to my deck a few years ago and I couldn't walk on it for six weeks. I finally had the entire deck sanded and Australian Timber Oil applied again by an independent contractor which came out beautifully and was trouble free. I have since applied it myself several times and have never had a problem. It sounds to me that it is not being wiped soon enough after it is applied which will create problems. I like the product and plan to continue using it.

**Q: There are two versions of this product, one is water clean up, the other is oil based and paint thinner is used for brush clean-up. Which version?**
A: The first answer is wrong, you would never use thinner to clean a water based paint, you would obviously use water! Also, I've use the water based product and the oil base product a wet environment didn't find any difference. I believe the water base lasted a little longer and it doesn't have the irritating smell and is easy cleanup.

**Q: Does the Natural have a matte Finish?**
A: I used it on a bench made of smooth sanded ipe (Brazilian Hardwood) bench. It dried to somewhat of a sheen finish which I like.
I have also used it on the bare wood of outdoor tools (shovels, etc) and it dries to the same sheen finish. Takes a while to dry 
but when dried seems very durable, a great product in my opinion.

I like the product thus far. It is amazing that the contents of the can stayed in the can as it was so dented that I had to buy a new can to store after I opened it. Very poorly packaged for shipment.
