The lip (I take the lid off to drink) is a thin rim, which personally is imperative. The tapered bottom, it seats securely in cupholders while driving. The huuuge opening to fit your whole hand in for ease of washing. Base, even tho tapered at the bottom, is secure enough to prevent tipping. HOT! I can fill it, put lid on, travel, and four hours later when I remove lid, my tea is still piping hot!
