Put ice water halfway up the inside one, and then place the whole thing in a sink filled with the hottest water possible. After a few minutes you should be able to pull them apart. Ridiculous packaging! **Q: Is the top opening wide enough for a 1 cup measuring cup, so I can scoop directly from the container?** A: Yes. The opening is the same size as the container. It comes with a measuring cup for each container which is super handy! **Q: Will these hold intact boxes of cake and muffin mix?** A: Not sure but definitely holds 5 lb flour and sugar. They are square at the bottom thru the top. Just shy of 6” x 6”.
