SILICA FUME, IS A HIGHLY POZZOLANIC MATERIAL THAT IS USED TO ENHANCE MECHANICAL AND DURABLITY PROPERTIES OF CONCRETE. IT MAY BE ADDED DIRECTY TO CONCRETE AS AN INDIVIDUAL INGREDIENT OR IN A BLEND OF PORTLAND CEMENT AND SILICA FUME.INITIAL USE OF SILICA FUME IN CONCRETE WAS MOSTLY FOR CEMENTREPLAALONG WITH WATER-REDUCING ADMIXTURES (WRAs). EVENTUALLY, THE AVAILABLITY OF HIGH-RANGE WATER -REDUCING ADMIXTURES (HRWRAs, OFTEN REFERRED TO AS SUPERPLASTICIZERS) ALLOWED NEW POSSIBILITIES FOR USE OF SILICA FUME TO PRODUCE HIGH LEVELS OF PERFORMANCE. THIS SILICA FUME IS PRODUCED FROM RICE HUSK ASH -RHA is grayish-black in color due to unburned carbon. At burning temperatures of 550–800 °C, amorphous silica is formed, while crystalline silica is produced at higher temperatures. The specific gravity of RHA varies from 2.11 to 2.27; it is highly porous and light weight, with a very high specific surface area and RHA enhances the strength of cement admixture.
