The size large was perfect but not loose as I had expected. If you have skinny legs you could go with chart size if not you might consider sizing up. I had also ordered the Solmate sock crew size in medium (as they did not have to go up to the knee) and they fit very well (not too big and not too small). I think I could have ordered the knee high in XL and been OK. The crew socks were larger than the knee highs in the foot area as well as around the ankles. I was very impressed with these socks and have already ordered a second pair of the crew socks as I really only need one knee high pair.
