If the brewing, then opening the orange tab in the lid should break any vacuum seal. If you mean the serving carafe, then you'll just have to force it open. I've had vacuums happen in other insulated bottles when I added cold liquid with ice. This shrinks the air inside the bottle causing a vacuum. If you shake it too hard it will come flying out, but if you put your finger on it, it will hold in place while you shake off the water. Overall, it's simple to use, easy to clean up, and delivers a great coffee. I also use a burr grinder to make fresh coarse grounds so that it works well with the metal mesh filter.
