Review: Great unit - My house had been running on a 3-ton mini split system that was very inadequate for the size and type of home it is (2000 sq ft, vaulted ceilings, etc.) and struggled during the hot North Texas summers. I was just counting the days until the mini-split gave-up and that finally happened this year. I originally ordered the GPC1460H41, but the seller upgraded me to the newer SEER2 model (GPCH36041AB). I work in maintenance, have my EPA 608 universal, and do work on AC units frequently (though I am NOT a master AC tech) so I specifically ordered a simple unit (single stage compressor, no control boards, etc.) that would be easy to service/diagnose. The newer model has a PCB, two-stage compressor, and 5-speed fan but it's not one of the overly complicated AC systems that requires proprietary software and a whole training course by the manufacturer just to work on it. As for build quality, I have no complaints. It uses a Copeland scroll compressor, standard TXV, standard fan and blower motors... all easily replaceable should the need arise. The sheet metal is on par with other pack units I've had to work on. The condenser coil fins are very closely packed, and therefore very thin material, so it's nice that Goodman used louvered sheet metal covers to help protect them. I installed the unit with a 8" platform as well, to help prevent the condenser coils from picking-up grass and other debris as easily. After installation, and performing Goodman's "startup procedure" I attached my gauges and checked the unit out. I did find the unit to be slightly overcharged -not so much as to be damaging, but it was enough to add a few amps to the compressor. I recovered a bit of the R410 and also had to make a very minor adjustment on the TXV to have it running to almost exact Goodman specs, but really it would have been just fine without any adjustment. I paired the unit with a Honeywell RTH6360D1002 thermostat (I wanted the 5-2 programming feature) which works perfectly with the unit. I also installed a 10kw heat kit (we had a leftover at work). I installed the unit in June, it's now mid-late August and the unit has been working flawlessly. It's currently 103 degrees outside, the unit is running and holding 75 degrees in the house. I just checked: dry bulb intake temp (taken at the filters) is 75 degrees while the output temp (taken at the first vent) is 57 degrees, giving a delta-T of 18 degrees. I couldn't be happier. Review: Bad out of the box - Pressure Limit switch was bad on first start up.
