Lots of helpful tips on how to read Tarot for yourself

*by C***G on Reviewed in the United States on November 29, 2016*

Tarot for One is a very useful overview of reading Tarot with special attention paid to what to watch out for when reading for yourself. For example, when you're depressed, when you want a very specific answer, or when you ask the same question over and over again -- these are probably not good times to pick up your Tarot deck! One of my favorite parts of the book is the chapter on reversals. Weber provides some overall guidelines for what reversals can mean, so you don't need to memorize every single card's reversal. Plus she provides a useful exercise for when you're not sure how to read a reversal. Her section on how to interpret tough cards is also illuminating, as it reminds us that not every card is completely good or bad -- she writes specifically about "relearning the tough cards" (thinking about possible positive meanings for cards traditionally seen as negative) and "the flip side of your favorite cards" (how cards we usually think of as positive can have less-than-positive meanings too).Last, she includes a variety of spreads to try out, and I appreciate that some of them include deliberate pulls (where you choose a card face up, based on what's on the card) as well as random pulls (where you pull a card at random). The idea of deliberate pulls is powerful as a way of thinking actively about where you want to go with your relationship, your work, or your life -- and then using Tarot to help you get there.

Whether you're new to Tarot or have been reading for decades, GET THIS BOOK

This book is simultaneously an excellent primer for those new to Tarot and a fantastic guide to deepen the knowledge of someone who has read Tarot for decades. Personally, I've been studying and working with Tarot for 3-4 years now, and almost every single page of this book had a wonderful "aha!" moment for me, with new ways to interpret, new ways to read, lessons on how to trust one's instincts while listening to the "voice" of their deck, and more. Most importantly, this book shows that you CAN read for yourself - it just takes practice and some special techniques. The exercises in this book will guide the Tarot reader towards a better relationship with their cards and help them confidently read for themselves, as well as others. Some particularly helpful sections include:-Several types of spreads designed for reading for yourself, designed for various scenarios-How to interpret tougher cards-Various ways to interpret reversals-Exercises to help you identify your own associations with all the cards-Exercises to deepen your relationships with all the cards - I found the exercises for the court cards particularly helpful, as those have always vexed me-Exercises to compare your life's journey with the journey represented in the Major Arcana

    Somewhat helpful

*by A***R on Reviewed in the United States on December 16, 2018*

This is a standard Tarot guide with an explanation of the Major and Minor arcana cards. However she spends a great amount of time trying to give "practical" examples of readings of past querents. Really did not find this too helpful, it's kind of like watching someone play the guitar and trying to pick up techniques. One thing she does offer which was very interesting was her interpretation of the "people" or court cards regarding how to tell if the court card is internally influenced by the querent or of the court card is externally being influenced onto the querent.
