A new series of prose novels, straight from the worldwide Naruto franchise. Naruto’s allies and enemies take center stage in these fast-paced adventures, with each volume focusing on a particular clan mate, ally, team…or villain. Uchiha Itachi, four years of age. The birth of Sasuke, meeting his friend Shisui, the academy, genin, chunin, and then the Anbu—Itachi races down the path of glory toward his dream of becoming the first Uchiha Hokage, unaware of the darkness that lies ahead…

Review: Good add on to the anime - Naruto: Itachi’s Story, Vol. 1 gives a deeper look into the life of Itachi Uchiha and shows that he is much more than a villain. The story follows Itachi from a very young age and explains how war, responsibility, and pressure shape his character. Instead of focusing only on action, the book spends time exploring his thoughts and emotions. One of the most powerful parts of the book is how mature Itachi is for his age. He understands the pain caused by war and wants peace, even though he lives in a world filled with violence. This makes his character feel complex and realistic. The story shows how difficult it is for him to balance his kind nature with the expectations placed on him. The book also focuses on sacrifice and loyalty. Itachi often puts the needs of others before his own, especially when it comes to his family and village. These choices are not easy, and the book shows the emotional weight behind them. This helps readers understand why Itachi makes decisions that may seem confusing or cruel at first. The writing style is simple and easy to follow, making it a good choice for middle-school readers. While the story may be more enjoyable for readers familiar with Naruto, it still does a good job of telling an emotional and meaningful story. Overall, Itachi’s Story, Vol. 1 is a thoughtful and engaging novel that shows the complexity of one of Naruto’s most interesting characters.
Review: Great First Half - Okay. If you're looking for something light-hearted ... this is not nor will ever be the book for you. If you are instead looking for a book detailing the early life (age 4-11 for book one) of one of the best. if not the best, shinobi from the Naruto franchise- this will be for you. I recommend this to any Itachi or Naruto fan who enjoys real ninjas. This isn't your kid's bed time story, this is the steady growth and psychological view from a shinobi who was surrounded by an immeasurable amount of despair from an early age and as such wanted peace more than anyone else. But realizes that it may not be possible as some sides are against the notion of peace. It's effectively a story about growing up and losing one's innocent views of the world. Of maturing. Of getting strong to protect what is dear to you. A story where a kid (as there is introspection present in this tale) can notice that no side is 100% right, whether that be his best friend, the village, or his clan that is bent on a power grab that will hurt civilians. In other words, if the Narutoverse were our world but without all the showy explosions and aspects of shounen- Itachi's life could very well have existed. Which makes any semblance of happiness present in this book (keep in mind, this is mildly cheerful during minor moments at best ... as it should be in a shinobi verse) all the more saddening when it seems to be slipping away towards the end. But, if you're still adamant about purchasing it when you're one of those people that likes fluffy, happy things, go for it. There are minor happy moments in Itachi's life. He has a chat with Naruto, which is interesting for both of them. He is a great brother to Sasuke, which is no surprise. He's a good friend to Shisui. His moments with his love interest and good friend, Izumi, are adorable. It's not devoid of good memories. Though, they aren't littering the book. Which in turn, makes them all the more special when he does enjoy his life. And he progresses and gets closer to his goal of getting strong to protect those he cares about in the village. All of that. This in combination with book 2 (yes, yes Japan did choose to divide his story into two books- there was so much to cover and even now still possibly more as the books don't go over his Akatsuki days + he's a fan fave so it's not surprising they did this; people are willing to buy these and they were a hit in Japan) comprise the best story of the Shinden/Hidens so far. At least, if you consider the best stories to be those that have some level of seriousness to them. If you're a pairing fan, aside from Itachi x Izumi, these books won't help you much. If you want books where there are clear sides of good and evil, these aren't for you. If you don't like traditional ninja fights with swords, kunai, etc and instead want rasengan and chidori explosions then this isn't for you. If you would rather read something totally happy, go to another character's novel page, please. If you're still here after reading this review, by all means buy this book and Vol 2. You will not regret it. Have fun reading!
