I found it easier to open by setting them on the table, pressing the short end against my body while lifting one corner. It was kind of a twisting motion. I think the lid will loosen with time. I’m hoping to bring these watercolors with me while I travel. It’s a good size, not too large, they should fit in my travel art kit nicely. I highly recommend these watercolors for anyone who is interested in painting.
