Review: I bought this to make my own toothpaste with. I mix it with baking soda and some peppermint oil and it works great! This 16 oz bottle should last me a long time and the cost savings of not having to buy overpriced toothpaste makes it well worth it!
Review: I had been diagnosed as pre-diabetic at my check-up three months ago. I was told to cut back on sugars, white bread, rice, cookies and candy or risk a diagnosis of type 2 diabetes. I bought one of those blood sugar test kits on desertcart, and started checking my numbers. In addition, I began to read about foods and other supplements that could help. There was a good deal of info on coconut oil and water. I cook a lot for myself and I typically use peanut oil for it's high smoke point (450 degrees F), Coconut oil has a smoke point of 350 degrees F, but unless you're deep frying this is fine for grilling fish, making popcorn or baking. This particular oil is tasteless so it has a lot of applications that call for oil (pancakes, waffles, corn bread, mayonnaise, salad dressing) and you won't get a weird taste. They make this in flavors too, garlic, rosemary, etc.but I prefer the tasteless. Since the smoke points are the same, this works as blend with un-clarified butter as a popcorn popping mixture, I remember hearing about 20 years ago that a large popcorn in movie theaters popped with coconut oil contained the saturated fat of six Big Macs. A chilling thought for regular movie goers, and the backlash caused many theaters to start using canola oil or sunflower oil to make the popcorn. Despite the difference in taste, it seems they went to a less healthy oil in the long run. Coconut oil while being heavily saturated than some oils has more of a healing quality than if you say used beef tallow or lard. Just another sensational media scare that in essence made us eat less healthy that what we used to do. Getting back to the taste, when blended with butter popcorn develops this rich taste that made theater popcorn so good. Besides making popcorn on the stove, my lunches at work were typically a sandwich and a cup of Progresso vegetable beef, chicken noodle, or just vegetable soup. I found I could stir in a full ounce of coconut oil and it made the soups richer without changing the taste. I started using this oil regularly for a month or so. A few weeks ago I went in for my blood work, and then last week for my check-up. Since I still ate too many starches, potatoes and such, and the occasional pizza, I was worried about the results. I was surprised to hear that my blood sugar was well back in the normal range. While I'd cut down on some bad foods, I really hadn't done everything I could, so I give credit to the coconut oil for helping me get back to normal. If you look around on various websites including Carrington Farms they list numerous benefits for coconut oil for killing disease in the body, to topical fungus cures outside, to skin care, hair care, weight loss and many more. Despite the amount of saturated fat it appears to have little effect on cholesterol or weight gain. One of the other reviewers mentioned some thyroid benefits, I take the same prescription as him, and that part of my blood work was called out as very good by my Physician as well, it could just be the medication, but maybe the coconut oil had a small effect there as well. I recommend this product highly based on my experiences with it. I've bought several bottles, and use it regularly in my cooking. The Zon has a particularly good price on this brand and offers it on a subscription for even less, so give it a try and see what I mean.

## Questions & Answers

**Q: The liquid coconut oil from Natures Way states that it is 93% MCTs, what percentage is Carrington Farms?**
A: I called Carrington Farms. They wouldn't comment on "the other company's" % which I wasnt even asking about because Nature's Way clearly states this information on their bottle. They also said they don't release that information regarding their % MCT's. I find this to be a shady answer and will not purchase from this company for that reason.

**Q: Is this the same as purchasing MCT oil?**
A: This is not a full MCT-oil product; MCT oil is made up of only capric (C10) and caprylic acids (C8). In one TBSP, which is 14 grams of oil, MCT Oil has about 6.2 grams of capric acid and 7.8 grams of caprylic acid. You don't have other non-MCT oil fatty acids in a pure MCT oil. This Carrington Farms coconut cooking oil product has .7 grams of lauric acid (C12), 4.6 grams of capric acid, and 3.7 grams of caprylic acid. This means it is 60% MCT oil, having 5 times more MCT oil content than coconut oil. Lauric acid is what gives Coconut oil its white color, distinctive taste, and solidity at room temperature. .7 grams is not enough to make this oil white, add the coconut flavor, or solidify it at room temperature. This product also has about 5 grams of other fatty acids, which are long-chain fats (C14-C20).Regular coconut oil has about 6.2 grams of lauric acid, 1 gram of capric acid, and .8 grams of caprylic acid. That's about 13% MCT oil. The other 6.2 grams are made up of other fatty acids: Long-chain fats (C14-C20).The question is what do you want to get out of this oil? If you are looking to raise ketone levels in your bloodstream, the different oils do this in a different ways. Coconut oil does not raise ketone levels in your bloodstream as high as MCT oil does. But the coconut oil does provide a more sustained, but lower, level of ketones for a longer period than MCT oil. (This means the body does convert some of the C12 into ketones after your liver processes it.) And if you were to use a product like Bulletproof Coffee's Brain Octane Oil, which is 100% Caprylic acid, you would get a much higher dose of ketones, but shorter lived than both standard MCT oil and coconut oil.If you are looking to raise ketone levels but aren't too picky about it, this Carrington coconut cooking oil is fine. If you want a ketone surge for a burst "performance" of brain function, then use Brain Octane Oil or some other pure C-8 Caprylic Acid. And if you can find a good deal on standard MCT oil, then buy that.

**Q: What is the difference between this and therapeutic grade coconut carrier oil?**
A: I do not know the difference, but I can tell you I've been using food grade coconut oil for my carrier oil as it's safe on the skin and less expensive plus I can use it in cooking. All around win for me. With family members having skin problems and sensitivities, I use this for moisturizing and it works great, with essential oils added or just plain.

**Q: How does this product stay liquid at room temperature? Coconut oil is usually a solid at room temperature.**
A: Not sure how they do it but it does stay in the liquid state. The label indicates it can be used for sauteing and baking in temperatures up to 350 degrees, which is probably why it evaporates so quickly when sauteing at high temps and I have to add more oil to the pan. I think it's worth it for the health benefits, since it is a healthier oil than soybean, canola, or olive oils.

This stuff has so many great uses. I initially started buying a lot of this stuff as I run a small occult supply business and unscented fractionated coconut oil makes a fantastic carrier oil for herbs, and coconut oil is decently shelf stable. You can also use it to make flavored oils to enhance a dish as it doesn't have a coconut smell or aftertaste. I often find myself using it to cook with as I usually had some on hand, and coconut oil is much better for you than cooking/frying with vegetable/canola oil. It's also reasonably low on the comodogenic scale, so in a pinch it can be used on skin as a moisturizer, and for hair oil too. I've also been eyeing it recently as I'm often low on funds and like to do a double cleanse face routine....a lot of popular oil cleansers are well, just oil, and while i believe the fractionated doesn't have quite the same health benefits as raw coconut oil, i have been thinking, "i bet i could do a quick oil cleanse with that..." same with people who talk about "oil pulling" for dental health, which I haven't tried, but considering how bad my teeth are getting well...again I keep eyeing it.... I've also always just liked the Carrington farms brand. It has a great price point, is covered by EBT, and apparently is a very eco-friendly brand that's widely available. Lately I have considered using more solid coconut oil for non-cooking purposes (I've gotten some solid jars of just what they sell at the corner store and liquefies at heat anyway) and if I were to switch to a raw, solid, or non-fractionated coconut oil, I'd definitely go to Carrington farms as my first pick.
