So, if you use these and they don’t work, just take a breath and take them back off, try again. This application used a 4x8, 3/4” treated sheet of plywood along with 1x6 treated boards for the trim to make to more sturdy. Dang thing was heavy and dangerous if it falls. These gas shocks were the ticket. My wife can grab the handle and pull it up. Pulling it down is a bit stiff, but acceptable. I added a pull rope for underside so I can be down the stairs a bit. Great improvement and should last.

So, if you use these and they don’t work, just take a breath and take them back off, try again.
