I bought this foot stool cheap and painted it up, looks good as new. The paint was easy to use, I just used a good quality soft bristled decorating brush. It does take going over and over in different directions if you have a textured fabric. It is a little brighter than I wanted but now I know how easy it is, I might just mix a little back in and give it a second coat. Not that the colour is t beautiful it’s just brighter than my sofa. I used a whole bottle to touch up some sun bleaching on a black sofa and still is a little noticeable **Q: Can this be used on a lampshade? Will the warmth of a bulb affect the paint?** A: I don't think the heat will affect the paint. I put it on car upholstery that gets a whole lot hotter than a lamp shade. Worked great by the way. **Q: do you have to rewet or spray with water again before the 2nd coat?** A: I would highly recommend spraying with water before each layer. It keeps the fabric softer and makes it look more dyed than ‘painted’ **Q: I used this on a chair and it made the fabric hard and stiff. How can I make it soft again?** A: You can’t! You have to wet the fabric when you first apply the dye. That’s what makes it stay soft. Once it’s dried it can’t be softened. Would recommend ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ I found that adding water to the paint helped me. *by K***E on 28 July 2025* I purchased the mustard yellow to use on 2 lampshades which were black. I wet the shades as per the instructions and started to paint with a normal brush. After about 4 coats of paint the shades were still very patchy and the paint kept soaking in very quickly. I began to think that I would have to throw the shades in the bin. I remember reading a review which said that they had thinned the paint with water and though I would have a go as I had nothing to lose. Hey presto!! It worked like magic and in 3 further coats of the thinned down paint, I now have 2 lovely new lamp shades. If I’d done this right from the start i don’t know if it would have made it easier, possibly I wasn’t wetting the shades enough, but thinning the paint made it much easier for me. I appreciate that black is a dark colour to cover but it’s now worked.
