Just a heads up - birko-flor sandals do not have a leather upper nor manmade leather on the inside. They are made out of synthetic upper that looks like leather and the inner lining is felt.Also, there are two options for the width - narrow and normal. Which Amazon does not distinguish.Although I had to return mine due to size issues, the description on the site is misleading at it's best.For those looking for the leather option, Arizona comes in premium leather upper lined with suede on the inside.

(If sizing is a concern, please see my note at the end of this review.)I needed a pair of Birkos I could wear outside when it was drizzling, or take on the occasional road trip. These were my choice, and here's why:(1) My pair (size EU42/UK8) weighs just 241 grams! You won't notice that in a suitcase.(2) They seem to be as well built as the standard product, although as the material (including buckles) is plastic I doubt they will last for many years. Depends on how frequently you use them, of course.(3) They have the usual Birkenstock supportive/shaped footbed, so you can win the poolside sprint next vacation, throw your towel over the best lounger, and give the Germans a surprise :-)(4) If you are worried about standing on a spiny sea creature at the seaside, these may be worth considering - although that's not my area of expertise.Negatives? Well, they are likely to get clammy because the EVA* does not breathe. Just as well, actually, as otherwise they would not be waterproof! If you can live with that, they are 5 stars.Birkenstock sizing - solved!Here is a link to what appears to be the Birkenstock UK website page about sizing. All Birkos come in two widths (narrow and standard) and one range of EU sizes. Just choose the width and EU size that are right for you and your gender. As Birkenstock puts it on the website: "In the UK men and women's sizing is different, while European sizes are unisex." It's a plastic - very interesting article about it on Wikipedia if you're interested. Here's part of the Wikipedia article: "The material has good clarity and gloss, low-temperature toughness, stress-crack resistance, hot-melt adhesive waterproof properties, and resistance to UV radiation." Sounds perfect for summer. Apparently it is also used as a cold flow improver for diesel fuel. Funny stuff.

I have these with suede straps and cork sole, but the sole is starting to smell like blue cheese, and no amount of scrubbing with bicarbonate seems to help, so these seemed like a good idea.I ordered my usual size, and they did seem a bit big, but when I tighten the straps they fit well. Having said that I do wish I’d ordered one size smaller.Overall, good value. I’m pleased. You will be too. Yes you will. You dirty little sausage monkey.

As I said above - it will take some time to get use to them. They stay on your feet easily (which was a concern). They only negative is wear them around the house first to get use to them, wear socks as the sole (or insole) part actually rubbed my arch and caused some discomfort, but with socks everything is gravy.18/04/21 updateThey are simply fantastic. They seem to have moulded to my foot and are extremely comfortable. They don't smell and are very hard wearing.04/08/21They are still very comfortable however they are starting to split at the corner of the first strap, on the inside step-see the photo for details. It makes sense seeing how that where the foot bends.

These are a great shoe BUT there is something missing in the description on the item. The width. I bought a pair of these in 2013. Same model, same size but they are wider. I looked at the box that the new ones came in there is a width selection. I can still wear them but they are not as roomy as my first pair. I was not expecting this.

the black stud on front of shoe digs into the second small toe making them really sore leaving a red mark on bothfeet ,this is a bad design,and therefore impossible to wear.only option is charity shop, and my advice is don,t buythese shoes waste of time and waste of money. These are super comfy.After 1 1/2 months the right slipper has already got a small crack. I have been using these as slippers and occasionally on the streets to walk the dog. During that time the wear and tear should be minimal! One week I took them on a beach holiday with a bit more wear and tear. A quality product like Birkenstock should however not break that quickly regardless.

Very lightweight, not an inexpensive product, arrived quickly. However, not that comfortable for me, quite firm, unforgiving & stiff. I tried wearing them for a good few days to see if things improved but it didn’t. If you’ve got comfort issues I don’t think this is for you.This is only my opinion.
