With a medium tip flat blade screw driver and less than 15 minutes the months of holding the Explorer’s rear door up while trying to unload the groceries were cured. Do NOT try to remove the retainer clip. For easiest install of these type pistons get one end of the piston in place over the mounting pin (vehicle) and gently pry up SLIGHTLY on the retainer clip while gently pushing the piston down onto the mounting pin. Snaps right on with minimal prying of the retainer clip. As soon as we installed the rear door now raises quite quickly and with some force so has plenty of strength to raise and keep the door raised.
