Only Penofin Penetrating Oil Finish can meet the needs of hardwood in fiber protection, penetration, stabilizing, and nourishing. Used for all fine hardwoods such as: Ipe, Pau Lope, Ironwood, Mahogany & Teak Formulated to allow the wood to breath. Transparent option highlights the natural beauty of the wood. APPLICATION: After properly cleaning your frame, simply apply a moderate coat of the stain to the wood. Allow stain to sit 20-30 minutes, giving it time to properly penetrate the wood. Wipe the surface thoroughly clean to remove excess finish. It is recommended that this product be applied every 3 to 6 months. For more product information and detailed instructions. Review: Works well, looks nice...application tips - We have an ipe wood deck which had gone uncleaned or treated for about 4 years. We first cleaned the deck with an anti algae / grime cleanser. After letting it dry, we applied a single coat of this oil. The oil is not at all transparent. It is obviously brown in the can, and brown on your wood. But it does have translucence and did look very nice. We were complete novices, but took our time, and it worked great. Some things we learned: - we applied with a cheap garden sprayer, and then worked in with brushes. This worked well even though the sprayer was very haphazard in its spray. It got the oil on the surface faster and easier than dipping a brush, but also allowed the benefit of brushwork (working it into every grain, getting a thin even coat). This worked well for two people working together, as we would spray down a section, then work together to brush it in using a couple cheap brushes that we just tossed after. - we did all the vertical surfaces first, which are easier since you cant really over apply (it just runs down the pole). We wiped them all down after with rags (important) to remove excess. - we then did the horizontal surfaces, spraying about 4 boards at a time, then brushing it in and spreading even. We did half the deck, wiped with rags, then did the other half and wiped with rags. - The entire project took 2.5 hours for two people. The deck is about 250 sq. foot with a bit of railing and a couple stairs. That took exactly one gallon of oil. - if you are careful to wipe up excess, there is really no issue with getting an even finish, even if you go over an area twice as you are moving along. The wood absorbs only so much oil, the rest needs to be wiped up. When we do it again, what we will do differently is to purchase a nicer sprayer (a $25 one instead of the $9 one we used). This would make the initial coat pretty much uniform. We would still brush in, but much less work. The sprayer approach is also great when you have very thin cracks between each slat. The spray gets in even where a brush struggles. The spray first, and then brush after is so much faster than a brush or pad, and very clean, as there is no pan or can you are dipping into or moving around.
Review: Best Stain I have purchased in years. - Purchased 1 gallon of this stain to cover a deck/fence/gate constructed last summer with treated wood. What a great product this is. First coat it looked good and second coat made it like showroom furniture. The oil based stain gets deep in the wood and leaves a transparent yet brown finish. I bought a second gallon to get a second coat on everything. It is pricey but I feel worth very penny. Will be using this in the future. Very Happy. Cannot recommend this enough.

## Questions & Answers

**Q: Can you ship this to san francisco, ca?**
A: I don't think this is correct currently. There may have been a seasonal issue. The San Francisco Bay Regional Air Quality regulations may restrict its use on some days in the summer but I got a shipment recently to Alameda California and we are only 5 miles from San Francisco (even less "as the crow flies".)

**Q: Can this product be shipped to Contra Costa County?**
A: Call the company customer service desk. They were helpful to me.

**Q: Would this product work on a stained mahogany deck?**
A: Should be put on a raw wood deck so it can penetrate into the wood

**Q: Is this Ipe finish, as per the description, or clear natural, like the picture on the can?**
A: I would not say it is perfectly clear. In my opinion it has a slight amber coloration to it. You should see if they have wood samples on their website.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Extremely happy with results
*by P***A on 27 May 2025*

My Ipe patio furniture was new last year and spent the winter outside in the snow and cold. I bought this product at the dealer's recommendation and could not be happier. Very easy to use and the results are fantastic. I followed the directions to apply a thin coat and then wipe off the excess with a rag after 15 minutes. The pieces are outside and now, just a couple of days later, I can not detect any residual odor and the surfaces feel clean. For eight pieces (4 large chairs, two tables and two ottomans), I used less than half a gallon can of the finish, so I hope it stays usable until next spring. Even if it is not stable, it was bargain considering how good my patio furniture looks.
