Using this bowl for meals I make at home means I can avoid paying a lot more for takeout from restaurants, which is exactly the reason I bought one. I considered other approaches, like a portable heating pot that would need to be plugged-in, but that wouldn't have been reliable depending on what I'm driving. So does this bowl do what it says? Yes! Last night I had chicken noodle soup that had to cool off a little before I could eat. The soup went into the bowl at boiling temperature and it was still very hot 5 hours later. Another time, I had rice with chicken and veggies... again, it went in hot and was still hot many hours later. Some reviews mention a problem with leaking and the lid being difficult to secure, but it's easy to deal with. I just make sure the lid is level all the way around the bowl and then tighten down. Maybe if you're in a rush or just not being very careful, it could be a problem, and heat and liquid would escape from the bowl. But it's really not that difficult to secure the lid. So yes, I would recommend the bowl to a friend.
