It takes lots of elbow grease. Use gloves the black gets under your nails and in the skin. Use a rag you are going to throw away, it will never come clean or near usable. It's easier to let dry, then wipe off with paper towels, when wiped off-take a soft rag and buff to shine. Now, to keep the shine every day it requires one simple thing most people refuse to do, after turning the water off take an old tea towel and wipe out the sink until dried. Takes less than 10 seconds. Also, by doing this I only have to touch up a few scratches every few months. I just put the brass cleaner into a fiber blend cloth and rub it on my brass item and then use a clean fiber cloth to wipe off the cleaner and polish the item. No need to use water.
