Review: Recommend! - I cook a lot of South East Asian food and this quality is great. I usually get dried galangal from the Asian market nearby but recently they didn’t have the normal product I buy, so I bought the other one that was in stock at the time, and it had some extra preservative on it or something and it changed the flavor and it made my food taste medicinal and off and I was very sad. BUT found this product through desertcart and happy to see there were no preservatives. It tastes great!

**Q: Is this the same as sand ginger powder? not to be confused with ginger powder, i'm asking if it's the same as "sand ginger powder" (沙姜粉)**
A: I've never heard of "sand ginger" before. Galangal (Alpina galanga) doesn't taste at all like ginger, and methinks it has no relation to ginger. Maybe google "sand ginger" to see what that is.

**Q: What is the substitution amount for (9) 1/4" slices fresh galangal which will be strained out after boiling?**
A: Never having boiled fresh galangal, I could only guess. How big are the slices? How much water are they being boiled in? You might have to taste test and determine the quantity of dried galangal to the boiled galangal.

**Q: Where is the galangal grown, what country?**
A: galangal, a member of the ginger family, is grown mostly in Africa, India, and the far East; it shows up in Arab as well as some African and Indian recipes. You may want to contact the provider as to the actual country of origin.

Tastes great in so many types of international recipes. Not as good as fresh, so you might have to use a tad more. I was pleasantly surprised with the taste.
