It keeps all the parts from getting lost or separated. The only problem I've had (and it may be user error) is getting the back off of a watch where the back is flat and I can't get anything to get under the edge to pop off the back of the watch. The other watches that I needed to change batteries, I didn't have any problems. The black holder, to hold the watch while you are taking on the back is very nice. It worked very well. So much better than holding in my hand as before. I haven't needed to take out links or replace a pin yet.
