The wafers definitely help with scent control. There was a bit of a hum/rattling noise after the first use. I took it apart and found the motor was a little loose in the holder. I took it out and wrapped it once in cloth tape and put it back in. It is now snug and makes zero noise. Update 4/2023 if it is freezing or below it makes a whirring noise.
