I used a facing tool to reduce the height of the head until it was small enough to fit into the Sherline t-slot. Then I used a hand file to quickly add flats to the remaining head of the screw, so it would fit into the t-slot. then I used an M8 nut and a washer to secure the QCTP to the cross slide. It works very well. I tried a long 10-32 screw with the Sherline t-nut and it was nowhere near strong enough. The homebrew 8mm "t-stud" is very strong and works great. Quick little lathe project! (I also took the aluminum plug out of the left side and reduced it's length so that the tool post locking handle will turn further toward the operator before engaging). These are easy little mods that make this a much more bearable QCTP on a Sherline lathe! **Q: this fit south bend 9 inch and is all aluminium or got steel parts** A: Not sure about the fit on a southbend. I have a craftsman/atlas 12 inch lathe and it didnt line up correctly. The tool post is aluminum. I cant remember if the tool holder is steel or not but the set screws are crap. The tool is too light weight for me i bought a better steel one. This is for a smaller lathe like almost jewlery size lathe. Everything besides the screws on this piece seems to be a sintered or maybe die cast pot metal. I was machining pewter at initial testing so it was great. I moved to some steel and it was terrible. The tool post was literally flexing like a spring. Went ahead and bit the bullet on a steel tool holder.Great for plastics and non ferrous materials.Terrible for steels.
