When I'm riding them I don't really notice the difference between the two except that there's simply no doubt that the Road version is much more resistant to punctures. With respect to the riding properties these tires are frankly not that different from the Contis that I mentioned above, in other words, a very good road bike tire. Some people have complained that the Pirellis don't have a lot of grip if it gets wet outside. I've never actually noticed that myself, and while I tend to avoid riding in the rain, I live in the Gulf coast. That means even though I try to avoid it, from time to time I will get caught in the rain. But it also means I'm rarely going to be riding down the side of a mountain or even a steep hill. So I may not be the best judge of how grippy these tires are in wet conditions, but they're certainly more than good enough for me.
