It is grooves that have been carved into the knife(They do not effect the strength of the blade -This is 440 steel (Use it like you would a kitchen knife -The scabbard has a very loose fit and will fall out if you hold it wrong Pros: -Very good knife -can be used for cutting meats or foods -Will stay sharp for a good while Overall a bit disappointing that it wasn't what I wanted but it's still a very nice knife. Weebs, do not use this as a weapon it will chip, roll, and break when struck against a hard object.
