Q: Does this press have ridges on it?

No. This press is stamped, and the stamped logo you see on the top is in reverse on the bottom. If using parchment paper in the press, you will not have significant imprints on your patty. I have a different press that has deep ridges, but I don't care for it when making smash burgers because it results in more breakage and sticking (pushes the paper into crevices). If this Blackstone press had a more robust handle, it would be really good. Another one to look at is the Cuisinart burger press. It is cast iron, also lacks ridges.

Q: I assume it has a lip, not shown, how deep of a lip does the Blackstone burger smasher have?

Mine is 11.6mm at center (.457" or about 15/32"). Note in my review that the spot welds holding the handle on failed prior to use (arrived in two pieces), and others have reported the same. Yours may arrive great, but just beware this may be an issue.

Q: These tools are made for a specific amount of ground beef. What is the correct amount of beef in weight which would be ideal for this tool?

I found that 1/4 lb / 4 oz was not enough. The burger does not fill the cavity. Made some last night starting with 6 oz balls. That was about right.
