## Description

Verbatim M DISC optical media is the new standard for digital archival storage. Unlike traditional optical media, which utilize dyes that can break down over time, data stored on an M DISC is engraved on a patented inorganic write layer – it will not fade or deteriorate. This unique engraving process renders these archival grade discs practically impervious to environmental exposure, including light, temperature and humidity. Designed for widely distributed large data such as scientific images, video, and other commercial application object data, Verbatim M DISC BDXL media have a storage capacity of 100GB – allowing you to use fewer discs while archiving your files.

Review: Parfait, les m-disc sont super car bezucoup plus resistant que les bd classic.

## Questions & Answers

**Q: What is the difference between bdxl discs and m-discs ?**
A: Ah, this is fairly straightforward:"BDXL" refers to the Blu-ray specification for quad layer, 100GB discs. You can read about that here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blu-ray_Disc_recordable#Version_4.0.E2.80.94RE_4.0.E2.80.94.28BDXL.29"M-Disc" refers to the actual technology employed in the recording layer. In this case, M-Disc capable discs must be written by M-Disc capable writers, but instead of changing the color of the disc's dye, or changing its phase, these M-Discs and burners actually engrave the data into the disc in a series of pits and lands. M-Discs also come in all typical sizes; 4.7GB DVDs, 25GB, 50GB & 100GB Blu-day recordables. You can read about this here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/M-DISC

**Q: Just bought a blu-ray m-disc drive. will the burned m-disc be readable by a standard dvd drive/player? thanks**
A: I just burned several BDXL 100gb's. They are marked with Blu-Ray logo and open read etc fine with the same Blu-Ray drive I burned with. Regular dvd drive does not see the disc. I am going to try a Blu-Ray only external drive - will update.

**Q: Can someone recommend a drive that successfully burns the bdxl m-discs? my pioneer bdr-2209 is only successful about 2 out of 5 discs.**
A: Yes. I've had excellent results on Mac OS X with the LG HL-DT-ST BD-RE WH14NS40. I bought mine in an external USB3 enclosure from OWC, but I'm quite sure that any you find here would work just as well. I've had a 100% success rate with the 25GB discs.

**Q: Sorry for furthur question. Is the 25gb model with branded surface also made from Taiwan? Thanks a lot.**
A: Hi Shih,Yes, Verbatim M-Disc BD-R 25GB 4X with Branded Surface - 25 Pack Spindle 98909 is made in Taiwan. If you have any other question please contact our Tech Support line: 800-538-8589. Thank you for your interest in our products.

I've read a number of reviews here, and seems a lot of people are having trouble with the software. Hope my experience helps someone out there. *** Mac computers natively record BDXL with no issues *** You don't need any other special software. I use MDISC to archive files from an external hard drive connected via a USB 3.0 dock. It takes about 3 hours for 100GB to record and 2 more hours to verify the disc. I only ruined one, and that was negligence on my part, literally the cable was loose and disc was ejected mid-process. This is the writer I use: LG WH16NS40 Super Multi Blue Internal SATA 16x Blu-ray Disc Rewriter With this adapter cable: UGREEN SATA to USB 3.0 Adapter Cable for 3.5/2.5 Inch SSD HDD SATA III Hard Drive Disk Converter Support UASP Compatible with Samsung Seagate WD SanDisk Hitachi Toshiba, with 12V Power Adapter You can find a slightly cheaper cable, but it won't have the necessary power requirements. The cost of the writer with the cable is about the same as those slim portable ones, but from what I've read, this big ugly setup performs much more reliably. So far so good. I got a pack of 25x 100GB and also 25x 4.7GB for testing and smaller files. I recommend testing your setup on smaller MDISCS first so it doesn't cost so much if you mess up.
