Has a very earthy, natural smell. So totally safe for your hammy and 100% worth it! **Q: Can hamster pee in this sand?** A: Yes, they can pee in this sand. It clumps together, and stays together. It doesn't spread out to all the rest of the sand like the softer kind of sand. Mine use it for a potty box as well as a sand bath **Q: Approximately how long would one bag of this last a dwarf hamster, being cleaned regularly?** A: So far I have used one entire bag for my three robo hamsters in one large aquarium (used in combination with a large container) for three weeks. I clean the sand regularly with a hermit crab poop shovel (it’s just what I have handy since we have hermit crabs also) and the sand is still pretty clean! I clean the sand once a day or once every other day. It clumps urine very well, I’m very impressed to be honest. My dwarf hamsters love their little sand box/cave and have made a portion of it their urine area, and a portion of it for their bathing needs. I suspect that I will need to replace completely in roughly two months, totaling it for a use of three months. Keep in mind that I do have three dwarf hamsters in the habitat and clean it regularly. For your purposes, since I’m assuming that you have one, I would imagine the use you would get out of it is much longer in duration. I'm just their grandfather. This Mongolian Hamster with a Russian surname has never seen sand and has never bathed in sand. I decided to experiment, and I'm very happy with that. The animal's fur has become more fluffy, like a dandelion. Each coat has become separate, not merged with the natural oil of the animal. He loves to swim in the sand and does it very actively, so since there is a gap in this ball of organic glass, a lot of sand flies out when he actively swims, so I have to put a piece of paper that I collect and pour back into the tub, and in the tub it is a salt shaker, but mine is no longer used for salt. And when I take out the sand, I also pour it out of the ball and put it all in and use it for a week. At the end of the week, I change the sand. Therefore, this bag of sand, which is packed very well in a double bag and in a cardboard box, which is very convenient, will last for a very long time, so it is not very expensive for your beloved pet, or rather not yours, but your child, and maybe yours. And this beast, which is only 2.5 inches in size, will have enough sand for a long time, while both you and the beast will be very satisfied. If they get some of their bedding in it or their droppings, it’s easy to clean. I take a very small mesh strainer and run the sand through it. The sand easily goes through the strainer and catches the bedding and droppings. I will add a bit more sand to the bath as needed. Would probably be good for a sand litter box. My gerbils love it. There really is NO DUST. No dust cloud when pouring and no dust on my hands. It is tan/orange and does not make my white gerbils look like they have a bad spray tan. It arrived double bagged in two thick ziplock bags and the inner bag did not leak. Easy to pour out.2.5 lbs of sand sounds like a lot more sand than it actually is.
