This thermostat has a compartment for 2 AAA batteries but using the batteries is optional -- the thermostat takes power from the AC unit, and the batteries are there for backup in case the power is off at the AC unit (e.g. during a power outage or AC unit maintenance). Appearance-wise, it's good looking with a clean modern white design. One nice touch is that the thermostat is perfectly silent and doesn't click when commanding to turn on/off the AC unit.
