The on off switch on the big burner stopped working 23 months after I purchased it. However, Cuisinart customer service immediately agreed to replace the unit and in less than a week I had a brand new cooktop. The cooktop has a three year warranty, which I did not realize until I called Cuisinart. As to the unit itself, the big burner on the left is the hot burner and the one I use the most frequently. As other reviewers have stated, when you have both burners on at the same time, neither one seems to operate at full temperature. But I’ve been able to work with that. It’s been an excellent replacement for the propane stove that I have used for years. I really appreciate that. It does not put any heat into my kitchen, and there are no fumes from the propane stove. So it is more environmentally sound.

As some other reviewers have mentioned, it does make a pulsing noise but in my experience noise reduces with pot/pan placement adjustment and isn’t bothersome. It works really well and doesn’t throw heat around. During operation, area around perimeter of cooktop stays largely cool since heat is efficiently transferred to pots/pans. Still adjusting to it shutting off when I lift the pan while cooking but it’s a nice safety feature and it comes back on once contact is restored. ## Questions & Answers

**Q: Does it work with regular cookware or induction-ready only?**
A: NOTE!  IT IS NOT TRUE that  , as was implied in a previous response,  it's NOT true that 'stainless steel cookware ' will always work with anY induction cooktop (without a 'plate', as i'll explain in a moment.    NOT all stainless is 'magnetic' ... So , simple test: will a magnet attract the BOTTOM of your cookware (where it'd be in contact with the cooktop) ?? IF SO, then YES it'll work fine .. IF NOT: it will NOT work at all unless you obtain a 'magnetic plate' that has the advantage of allowing ALL your cookware to work fine (and in many cases: MUCH better ..!!
Such 'plates ' are maybe 1/8" thick stainless 'of the magnetic persuasion' .. and I always use one even with my perfectly magnetic cookware: including cast iron!  Reason??? (good question!)
a couple of sized (12" dia , 8" or so)  directly on top of the 'burner' will vastly 'smooth out' the temperature that is being experienced by the pan on top of it ...  Without such a 'heat-distributing' device, it's likely that a HOT spot will develope in your pan .. this can have dire consequences if, for example the pan is 'thin steel' bottom, where because of uneven heating , the pan bottom will significalnlty distort .. a 'bulge' in the center .. Not good!
So, test your ware, AND NO MATTER what the result, you can get those 'induction plates here on Amazon: eg search for:  Induction Heat Diffuser 
Be careful NOT to buy one (of the many available!) that is designed for barbeque .. be sure it's for INDUCTION cooking ... where the diffuser plate itself must be magnetic!
(I'm an engineer and quite experienced with induction cooking .. and 'sous vide' too,  ... etc)

**Q: what size are the burners?**
A: The burners are 6" And 7 1/2" this is well worth the money it will do any thing a gas or electric burner will do safer and more efficiently.

**Q: what are the highest & lowest temperature settings?**
A: The device does not operate with temperature settings. The device operates with power output settings.  This is to say that a larger amount of food will heat slower than a small amount of food at any given setting.  We have cooked on it for almost two years now.  After becoming familiar with the way it heats (very differently) it becomes extremely easy to control cooking.  You can sear steaks on one eye while heating milk without scorching on the other simultaneously.

**Q: is this item a stand-alone? or an insert?**
A: Stand alone. It has feet along the bottom that raise it up slightly. There are fans with the intake on the bottom. I think using as an inset would block the airflow.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Has held up very well to four years of constant use

We bought this cooktop four years ago. Overall it's been a powerful workhorse, used at least once if not four or five times a day for our family of four. We've made huge pots of soup and endless pasta, made pancakes on two cast iron pans at once, seared tofu deliciously, quickly stir-fried vegetables in our big wok, delicately caramelized onions, and deep-fried latkes and doughnuts. The glass has never chipped, and no one's ever burnt a finger or accidentally toasted a wooden spoon the way we did back when we cooked with gas. That said, since we've had it for so long I've had the opportunity to test its durability. Over time the plastic edges on the sides haven't held up as well as the glass cooktop itself. Cracks developed after a couple of years and now several pieces of the plastic on the left side have broken off. This hasn't compromised its safety or prevented us from using it but it's probably not an issue you'd run into with a cooktop with a completely glass top or a metal surround. We've also run into some technical bugs - an occasional beep when it's not in use, whether something is on top of it or not, and more recently, an issue where when you turn it on, the right side beeps, blinks the word "off," then has to be turned on again. Given that it's endured such heavy use these too are not big problems. Sound-wise, it's not super loud on its own but if you're also using a ventilation hood, the combined noise level can be pretty high. Note that it will work best for you and stay quiet if you periodically turn it over and clean the vents/fan grills on the bottom; these can get dusty and greasy if neglected and that dust can produce a burning smell, and, I imagine, an eventual safety issue. If you've never used a double burner induction stove before, note that the overall power is limited so that if you are using both sides, you won't be able to work them both at their maximum capacity (with this unit, that's a level 8 on the left, level 5 on the right). This can be an issue if you're, say, trying to bring a big pot to boil on the left, while quickly pan-frying something on the right, so if you're accustomed to cooking with gas, you'll need to be a little more thoughtful about your pan sizes and how you time things. Highly recommend this unit though, whether you're new to induction cooking or not - it gives you a lot of power and great results, for a very reasonable price. We've absolutely loved it.
