Review: Perfect and Surprising - This case is the best computer bag I have ever had, and it had an unexpected surprise after an initial disappointment. I travel extensively and I put a beating on these types of bags. I bought this one two months ago, and I absolutely love it. I accepted it with a little misgiving at first. I have a large 17" laptop, in a synthetic butyl rubber sleeve. The separate bag that comes with this case will not accept such a machine, and at first I was disappointed. However, I quickly realized that not only is the separate bag not advertised as being able to take a 17" machine (it fits a 15" machine perfectly), that same bag is IDEAL and seems tailor-made for my projector, with pockets for cables and the remote. The 17" laptop (even in a sleeve) fits easily into the middle pocket of the main case just ahead of the handle (it will NOT fit in the back pocket behind the handle but a 15" laptop would). The separate bag fits over the extended handle using the provided strap, and the two bags put together like that roll perfectly secure, with all bumps absorbed. Nice thick material, metal zippers, decorative yet sturdy metal zipper handles. Heavy seams. The telescoping handle is robust and smooth. When you open all the zipper pockets all the way with the handle all the way extended at the same time, the bag just lays out the pockets on the floor, instead of falling toward you and bopping you on the head with the extended handle, a particular characteristic that has caused me to dramatically shorten the life of certain cases. You will not be disappointed with this case, no matter what equipment you have. I can't think of what else I would ask in a case of this type - if you need more, you need to start looking at the upright type of rolling case. UPDATE FROM 2017, January I am still using this same case, 3 to 4 years later. No wheels or zippers have malfunctioned. Nothing unraveled. Dirty now, from midwest winter travel, wheels have a flatspot or two, but still going absolutely strong. You should buy no other wheeled case of this size.
Review: Classic bag - The Wenger Patriot is, for me, the classic road warrior bag. It has plenty of geek appeal, with its many pockets that allow the anal retentive organizer separate and categorize its content. It is large enough to be my primary carry-on for day trips up to 2 or 3 days, and small enough to squeak by as a "personal item or brief case" on most flights other than those on excruciatingly small commuter planes. The frequent traveler will see this bag being rolled around by more other frequent travelers than almost any other bag - and there is good reason. It is more bag for the price than almost any other. There have been many minor version changes over the years as the company has made minor changes. I'm on my second one after about 7 years. The old one is still usable, but the wheels got embarrassingly noisy as the bearings wore out from miles of duress. My new one has slightly less room in the back compartment due to thicker, presumably more durable or cheaper-to-make tubes on the pop-up handle - the old one's handle was much thinner but never gave up on me despite the fact I put that bag through hell. This is indeed the "swiss army knife of travel bags." Unless you need much more expensive "status luggage" to satisfy an executive ego, you cannot go wrong with it. My old one has been my most reliable travel companion for years, outliving 3 laptops, 2 projectors, 3 cell phones, and so on. Even though I've replaced it, I won't throw it away. It will become my second bag on those trips where I need more capacity, because these are just the right size that you can stack them and get away with carrying two of them onto most planes.

**Q: Is this bag waterproof?**
A: well...in heavy FL rainstorms it has not had problems zippers closed of course. But, through a deep puddle and it got some moisture in through zippers. Mine is often outside of the umbrella coverage and I really do not worry about it. Don't take it swimming....lol

**Q: Does the small zippered pocket at the front have enough space for an iPad?**
A: Hi James,  I have loaded my patriot with two laptops and an iPad.  An iPad will fit in the front zippered compartment but not the top front zippered pocket.

**Q: So I am confused... does it or doesn't it fit under the seat in front of you on an airplane?**
A: The bag itself fits nicely anywhere. The bag with a laptop will fit nicely anywhere. Add a portable printer or a 3" binder and you space starts to get limited. With either, the bag will fit nicely mostly anywhere with some pressure needed under the seat and maybe would need to be placed sideways. In my experience, while flying with a 15" laptop, a 4" binder, lots of stuff in the 1st compartment and a portable printer, it fits nicely in the overhead bin of everything down to an Embraer E170/190. Will all the contents mentioned above, it does not fit under the seat of any plane or on the Overhead Bin of the the Canadair CRJ700/900 or the Embaer 145. I would imagine the same is true for ATR/Dash/Saabs. Hopes this helps somewhat.

**Q: Does this case have a loop or strap to allow it to be attached to a larger bag, i.e., the handle?**
A: The only thing like that is a strap across the back about 2 inches below the top and about 2 inches wide. I use it to hold it on to the backrest of my motorcycle in the passenger position while I attach the bungie cords. The only easy solution for what I think you are trying to do is in fact the handle.

I am a teacher in a school with five stories, stairs, and a elevator that is slow and unreliable. I also have to walk a distance from the parking lot, and I am frequently lugging a large quantity of books, ungraded papers, and a heavy laptop computer. At the beginning of the current school year I decided that lugging my shoulder bag laptop case, often weighing 30 lbs or more, to and from school, was not to my liking and I invested in this rolling case. Firstly, the good: The case is well made, the wheels roll smoothly, and the telescoping handle is sturdy enough to stand up to a reasonable amount of abuse,but smooth enough to extend and retract with the use of only one hand. The compartments are roomy, and there are several sections. I especially like the removable brief case that I can use when I need to carry only a small number of my usual load of papers to or from individual classes. The bag is large enough to fit my 17 inch laptop in the laptop area, although I admit the bag is not made for this, and the fit is tight. Still, I am able to get the lap top, the cord, and 20 - 30 pounds of books and papers into the bag comfortably without anything falling out. The zippers are of good quality, and run smoothy, even when I am juggling many things in both hands and can only use one hand to close them. This bag takes a beating, up and down stairs, in and out of my trunk, and often overloaded, but still looks nearly new and has held up well to the abuse. The disadvantages: This is a heavy bag, even when empty, which takes a toll when I have to carry the bag manually up and down stairs. And, the pockets are arranged in such a way that when you do NOT have a heavy item (like a laptop) in the back, the bag can fall forward and dump the contents of the other pockets. In other words, the empty bag is front heavy, and does not stand upright when the zippered compartments are fully opened, or most of the weight is in the front of the bag. Still, the disadvantages are slight compared to the advantages. I looked at many more expensive bags before choosing this one, and I am very pleased with the way this bag is holding up. I would purchase this again.
