GONNA UPDATE MY REVIEW HERE! Was really on the fence, so glad I went with this cage!
Took away a star just cuz something I didn't think about but feel a pet cage manufacturer should have. I really do love this cage but not sure it is completely safe for these little guys. We were calling our hamster spider-ham because she get on the top ledge flip over grab onto the wire cage with all four paws and go from one end to other upside. We thought it was hilarious! She was the buffest ham ever!! We were actually kind of scared of her she constantly was "working out" hard! She even felt real solid. Any way she occasionally fall and now I feel guilty because never seemed a big deal n never thought twice about it. She must have hit her little hamster head one day. She started being active like every night at around 10 pm n I went to say hello to her n she was a total wreck. Totally disoriented running in circles falling over. Was labor day, couldn't afford the one place open that took exotic pets so I Googled it maybe ear infection?? Noticed one ear for sure red. So maybe. Didn't see her hit her head although I feel it is what happened. She never seemed in pain and seems to have gotten much better but she is no longer spider ham. She still doesn't walk straight. So who knows. Maybe infection maybe head injury but something to consider for sure is the fact that hammy can upside down spider ham n the hard wooden ledges down below make the fall pretty dangerous. The following is my original post...So... really liked the appearance but had some doubts. Shopped around n thought about it a few days. Finally decided to just purchase as our little Norma Bean was still in her temp shoe box sized cage. First noticed the smell, was packaged well n opened it n was pretty strong, earthy smell. Not at all chemically, not a bit, which surprised me cuz of some of the reviews. So it's wood. Real wood. Very sturdy. But given this, it did come from a tree. I assume a very fragrant tree. But either way, it's been a day n can't smell it any more which I'm sad about but if you don't like smells don't worry it's gone quick n it's not a chemical nasty type thing. Also a comment that pee would get into the wood had me worried. Obviously it would. Why would a wooden cage have no insert in the base in a different less porous, easier to clean material? Took the risk any way. Also wood she'll chew through our just some how she'll escape from this cage. Anyone who has had a hamster knows these are valid and important concerns. She hasn't chewed on any part of this cage at all. Also she has not come close to a successful escape. As for pee soaking into the wood, the base is a slide out drawer and the material at the bottom looks exactly like dry erase board. My only issue with this is the drawer isn't very tall. So bedding sits above where the drawer pulls out. So for cleaning well have to dump the bedding into a trash bag by turning over the entire cage and then removing the drawer to clean it off. Which is fine, that is the process I'm used to and I'm happy it's something I can easily clean off. The COMPLETELY see through windows are 2 seperate pieces of plexi glass and slide out easily for cleaning also. It is so so so SO nice to be able to look into the cage in not see a thing but ugly bars!!! The size is pretty perfect also. It's not too big n not to small. Really prefect. It is hard to find a console table or storage cabinet with similar width n length though. I'm sure I will eventually find something though. The last pic I attached includes some other furniture items n stuff I hope it helps with the perspective of size. Really excited to leave a thorough review here because that's is how I make decisions about my online purchases so I struggled with this one cuz there wasn't many. I was so sick of the wire cages!!! I was so sick of the red blue and yellow plastic cages. Any way, used the cage for over a day now. I'm loving it n so is Norma Bean!!! She sleeps in top step little house area which is so cute. The ugly petsmart basic plastic n wire circus color cages were making me not want a hamster. But this is an excellent option of your liking the look just get it. It really is great. My hamster is definitely happier since moving in. Assembly was more involved then regular pet store cage. Took my 14 yr old son close to an hour I think. He did get pretty pissed when he was almost done cuz the hole wasn't lining up to screw into place. But that was when he was ready to be done with it n just the one hole. Overall I'm so pleased with this cage!!!

Arrived damaged, replacement is delayed.
Edit: Would NEVER purchase again. Cage has been a complete nightmare and have had to completely reinforce sides with metal bracings. Company never bothered responding or sending replacements for the broken piece.Overall, the cage would really be quite nice. It's a good size, and an awesome alternative to the typical wire cages you can get in Petsmart or wherever. That said, there's a couple issues that I have with it. First issue, the drawer arrived damaged. A lot of the holes are pre-drilled, and the drawer (that they ship assembled) very clearly had a mismarked hole and they drilled right through the melamine (I think?) bottom of the drawer (which would otherwise be a good idea), so mine arrived with a hole. Second issue, not all of the pre-drilled holes are in ideal locations - close, but not quite. Double check where your holes line up relative to where the shelves will sit before you start drilling, and then check again. Third issue, the wood pieces and hardware are all very clearly marked according to where they go according to the directions, which would be a good thing, except I now have a very visible "23" and "14" on very visible spots on the cage. Fourth issue, the cage is natural fir (which I like) which is prone to a sticky resin (think sap) that is almost impossible to completely remove from the plexiglass pieces for the front of the cage. It would have been nice if the plexiglass pieces were wrapped to protect them from the resin. They are supposed to be sending out a replacement due to the issue with the drawer, but the shipment has already been delayed twice. I'm hoping my drawer issue is a one-off, and same with the stamped numbers, and lack of plexiglass covering. I would still buy the cage, but it would have been helpful to know about these issues in advance, so my hope is that someone else finds this review helpful.Edited to note that the replacement was never received and the seller canceled the replacement without any notice or explanation.

Cheese the Hamster
I am so far very happy with this product. Very fast delivery!! I was first very nervous to buy it since there wasn't many photos or reviews. Also I have a very evil hamster. This is Cheese the hamster and so far she has destroyed 3 cages, 2 hamster wheels and a number of other hamster toys. She has also escaped several times. (the last photo is Cheese in the bathtub waiting for the cage to come in the mail) As of now she has chewed part of the cage but not all the way through. She loves to play around in it. It is pretty spacious, I am waiting for a new hamster wheel. I think it will be pretty snug with the wheel. ALSO I have tried a glass cage (she chewed all of the glue and plastic in it making it dangerously sharp) and a big plastic bin (she had chewed several holes in it). I don't want to put her in a bar cage but if this cage fails I guess I have no other choice... So this cage was the best one I can find. The top is heavy enough the hamster can't lift the lid. Yes, she is a very smart hamster and uses her little strength to lift lids and escape. It was a little hard to assemble. That is honestly my only complaint. It did have a weird factory smell to it but it went away. I will update this review later to see how long this cage last.
