## Description

These exciting, challenging, and deeply touching true stories chronicle the lives of ordinary men and women whose trust in God accomplished extraordinary exploits for His kingdom and glory. Written specifically to challenge readers with the powerful lives of missionaries who have profoundly shaped history, the books in the Christian Heroes: Then & Now series answer today's call for positive role models and for opportunities to see how God works through the lives of those who follow him. The exciting life stories of these heroes will inspire readers as they witness the drama of faith and character being tested under the most extreme circumstances. Readers of all ages love these fast-paced adventures that take them to the heart of a nation, an era, and what it means to live a life dedicated to serving God and those He loves. Parents report that even kids who have never liked to read have eagerly read all of these - sometimes more than once! This 5-book gift set includes: Eric Liddell: Something Greater Than Gold William Carey: Obliged to Go George Müller: The Guardian of Bristol's Orphans Jim Elliot: One Great Purpose Mary Slessor: Forward Into Calabar

Review: Pretty good biographies - I read these to my kids, and they certainly held their attention. They held my attention, too. I thought they were fascinating. I have now read about fifteen of these books to my kids (ages 6 and 9), and they keep asking for more. I do think, though, that this set is somewhat less interesting than books 1-5 (and subsequent books grow somewhat less interesting, though they are still pretty good). I guess there's a reason the authors chose to do the other missionaries first--they picked the most interesting stories to do first, and when those were successful, they moved on to these. I would recommend starting with the first set first. For example, the biography here about Jim Eliot is pretty good, but the biography of Nate Saint in the first collection was better (both I and my kids agreed). This is an interesting comparison, because they both culminate in the same events (the outreach to the Auca indians, where both Jim Eliot and Nate Saint died). We happened to read this one first, then sometime later read the biography of Nate Saint. This one gets bogged down more in details; maybe Nate Saint had a more varied life, so one could say more about him. I was also surprised that the story about Jim Eliot in here has significantly less detail about the aftermath than does the one about Nate Saint. On the other hand, the biographies of George Mueller and Mary Slessor were extremely interesting. You should definitely read those. (But you really should also read the ones in volumes 1-5.)
Review: Every book is great - I've read this entire series to my two sons and each books was interesting, inspiring and so informative. Our worldview has been broadened and it has given us a lot of things to talk about.

Great inspirational books. They challenge your faith and encourage you in your walk with the Lord. Very easy read. I bought them for my 12 year old daughter and she has enjoyed them and so have I. Good for any age.
