Review: Goofy but works great - The sound is a bit tinny however our dog mastered the button and we no longer have potty accidents. We put it next to the back door.
Review: Love these things! - This is the second time that we've purchased these buttons for our dog, Loki (APBT / Rottweiler). The first time was about two and a half years ago, and they held up well until recently... and - to be fair - I am surprised that they even lasted that long, given the fact that my dog often tends to SLAM his foot onto the buttons instead of just pressing them. His "outside" button finally stopped talking a couple days ago and his water button was getting a finicky, so thus the replacements. Anyhow, my dog loves these things! We have them for simple things, such as "outside", "water", and "food." These are so useful when - for instance - you're in another room all focused on a project and you hear "outside" or "water"... basic needs which might have had to wait longer if your dog weren't able to alert you to them... but instead, you stop what you're doing and can meet the dog's needs. A lot of it involves some interpretation if you have a smart dog like mine and don't have the space for a thousand buttons to be laying around, though... For instance, my dog typically pushes the "water" button when his water bowl is empty... but -the other day - he pushed it when there was still water in the bowl. I told him, "You already have water," and he proceeded to look at the bowl and then at me (confirming he in fact wanted water). There was some dog slobber and an old water-logged piece of food floating in it, so I took it to the sink to wash and refill it. Sure enough, he drank it when I sat it back down. In this case, I suppose he was telling me "fresh" water. You can also learn a lot about your dog's thought process and personality from these things! And - I have no proof of this - but I highly suspect my dog really likes telling me what to do. 99% of the time, my dog pushes the buttons appropriately... but he has - on rare occasion - went around pushing them all repeatedly out of frustration with me (typically when he gets an ear infection and I've been doing his ear flushes and drops - which he hates). This kind of "button pushing" is typically in conjuction with other annoying behaviors, though (like repeatedly asking to cuddle on the couch with me, then walking over and dramatically flopping onto his own dog bed after I move over for him... every five minutes!). Long story short, these buttons have really been wonderful to have. Honestly, the only way I feel that these buttons could be improved upon is the location and / or profile of the record button. Every now and then, my dog will accidentally hit it when trying to push the button (effectively deleting whatever was there). If it were recessed or located on the bottom, it would be a lot less likely to occur. Overall, I would definitely recommend! Edit: I forgot to mention one of the things that really helped my dog take to the buttons: scent. Scent is like its own language for dogs, so - in the beginning - I kind of scent coded the buttons. For the food and outside buttons, I crushed some of the scent the source (dog food, grass) into independent cups with a small amount of water, let the scent soak into the water for a bit, and then lightly sprayed the buttons with their matching scent. Inevitably, Loki investigated the scents - which triggered the buttons as he sniffed - and we then followed through with whatever action the button was intended for. It's hard to scent a "water" button, so we just pressed it every time we picked up an empty water bowl and sat it back down full. Either way, it didn't take him long at all to figure out that the buttons were to his benefit. Now he has a new button near the bedroom hall that says "Go to bed?"... he figured that one out immediately. It's like once they take to a couple buttons, the learning curve kind of disappears.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Fine starter buttons to see if your dog is interested in learning
*by J***S on September 9, 2024*

The sound quality is pretty muffled and soft but they do work. I didn't want to spring for expensive buttons not knowing if my dog was even going to be interested in using them, so these were a great way to try out the concept. Four buttons gives you enough words to work with to see how your dog reacts. The buttons are easy for my dog (greyhound mix) to target and press with a foot or a nose. My boy dog is showing interest and has used the buttons a few times. My girl dog gets excited about hearing the buttons but shows no interest in interacting with them. Putting in the batteries takes a philips head screwdriver - a little bit fiddly but not too taxing. Make sure the batteries snap in all the way - some of them took an extra shove. The record button on the outside was easy to use. So far my dogs have not bumped it accidentally. I used a label maker to show which buttons are for which words and the labels stuck on nicely. Are these the best buttons out there? Probably not, but they're great to use as a proof of concept.
