The frame just fits inside the sliding door frame so it shouldn't matter if the patio door is metal or vinyl. **Q: Is there a version where the dog door is closer to the ground? My dog is only 70lbs but hits his back paws while going through** A: There are custom panels available where you can adjust the step over, but you often have to go with a larger flap to accommodate the lower flap placement FYI.
