With read speeds of up to 7000 MB/s, this drive delivers lightning-fast performance—perfect for both PC gaming and PlayStation 5 compatibility. The heatsink keeps temperatures well-managed, even under heavy loads, which gives peace of mind when pushing the system with large game installs or demanding workloads. Installation into the PS5 was straightforward, and the system recognized it instantly. Games load almost instantly, and overall system responsiveness has noticeably improved. The build quality is excellent, and the packaging was sturdy and professional. I give the WD_BLACK SN850 1TB SSD a strong 5 out of 5 stars. If you’re looking for a high-performance Gen4 SSD that’s ready for PS5 or next-gen PC gaming, this is absolutely worth the investment. Fast, reliable, and future-proof. Highly recommended. Review: Ideal for PS5 - Summary - Easy to fit. Great performance. Highly recommended. (Heatsink required when used with PS5) If you enjoy large, Triple A games or ones with loads of expansion packs, you can fill up the storage space on the PS5 rather quickly. It's annoying when you have to juggle games to make room for something you want to reinstall. The solution is to add some extra SSD storage, so all your favourite games are always available and ready to play. After watching the official Sony "How to" guide, fitting is a quick and easy process. Being very over cautious, the whole process, from unplugging the PS to starting to download a game took less than 15 minutes. It could be done in half the time, now I've got the knack of getting the cover unclipped. Once fitted, it's easy to move games or apps from the internal storage to the expansion and you can set your preference for where either PS4 or PS5 games are installed. I've not noticed any difference in performance when gaming regardless of where it's installed. This card seems to appear high up on the list of recommended options on review sites and is the top choice on several of them. I went for the 1TB option with prefitted heatsink, which is required and can be bought separately and fitted at home if you have a particular preference. Although I can't really see why you would want to add the hassle of adding the thermal pads and heatsink yourself? I'm a very happy customer. ## Features - Next-gen PCIe Gen4 technology optimized for top-tier gaming (not intended for NAS or server environments) - Irrationally fast read/write speeds up to 7000/5300MB/s (1TB model) and up to 1,000,000 IOPS (1TB and 2TB models) - Up to 2TB capacity to hold your favorite battle-ready games - Downloadable WD_BLACK Dashboard software to customize and control your gaming experience (Windows Only) - Sleek Heatsink model minimizes thermal throttling to push the boundaries of performance for top-tier gaming. Now Compatible with PlayStation 5 consoles (PS5 system software version 21.02-04.00.00 or higher required.) ## Technical Specifications | Specification | Value | |---------------|-------| | ASIN | B08PHSVW7K | | Best Sellers Rank | 56,554 in Computers & Accessories ( See Top 100 in Computers & Accessories ) 266 in Internal Solid State Drives | | Box Contents | WD_BLACK™ SN850 NVMe™ SSD with Heatsink | | Brand | Western Digital | | Brand Name | Western Digital | | Cache Memory Installed Size | 1 | | Color | Black | | Compatible Devices | Gaming Console | | Compatible Video Game Console Models | Sony PlayStation 5 | | Connectivity technology | NVMe via PCIe | | Customer Package Type | Flat Free Package (FFP) | | Customer Reviews | 4.9 out of 5 stars 8,646 Reviews | | Data Transfer Rate | 7000 Megabits Per Second | | Digital Storage Capacity | 1000 GB | | Digital storage capacity | 1000 GB | | Enclosure Material | Nand | | Form Factor | M2 | | Global Trade Identification Number | 00718037875910 | | Hard Disk Description | Solid State Drive | | Hard Disk Form Factor | 8.8 Millimetres | | Hard Disk Interface | NVMe | | Hard Disk Rotational Speed | 7200 RPM | | Hard disk form factor | 8.8 Millimetres | | Hard disk interface | NVMe | | Hard-Drive Size | 1 TB | | Hardware Connectivity | PCI | | Hardware Platform | playstation 5 | | Installation Type | Internal Hard Drive | | Item Dimensions L x W x Thickness | 8L x 2.3W x 0.9Th centimetres | | Item Weight | 0.85 Ounces | | Manufacturer | Western Digital | | Manufacturer Part Number | WDS100T1XHE | | Media Speed | 5300 MB/s | | Model Name | SN850 with Heatsink | | Model Number | WDS100T1XHE | | Network Connectivity Technology | NVMe via PCIe | | Number of Items | 1 | | Product Features | Works with Playstation 5 | | Product Warranty | 2 year manufacturer | | Read Speed | 7000 Megabytes Per Second | | Special feature | Works with Playstation 5 | | Specific Uses For Product | Gaming | | UPC | 718037875910 | ## Product Details - **Brand:** Western Digital - **Colour:** Black - **Compatible devices:** Gaming Console - **Connectivity technology:** NVMe via PCIe - **Digital storage capacity:** 1000 GB - **Hard disk description:** Solid State Drive - **Hard disk form factor:** 8.8 Millimetres - **Hard disk interface:** NVMe - **Installation type:** Internal Hard Drive - **Special feature:** Works with Playstation 5 ## Images ![WD_BLACK SN850 1TB M.2 2280 PCIe Gen4 NVMe Gaming SSD with Heatsink - Works with PlayStation 5 up to 7000 MB/s read speed - Image 1](https://m.media-amazon.com/images/I/61PLv0u5zBL.jpg) ## Available Options This product comes in different **Size, Style** options. ## Questions & Answers **Q: Is this compatible with a msi b450 tomahawk max 2** A: Of course but you will get up to 3.600mb/s because that motherboard have gen3 m.2 slot. **Q: Does the ssd have in an in built heat sink, or would I need to buy a heat sink for it to go into my PS5?** A: Hi, The product has a heatsink option although I wouldn't recommend this as it's much cheaper to buy the standard non heat sink SSD and then purchase a third party heatsink compatible with the PS5. This is what I did and have had no issues at all so far. **Q: Does it come with the 5 year warranty from manufacture?** A: Yes it has a manufacturer 5 year warranty **Q: What sort of speeds dose ps5 get?** A: Minimum requirement is 5000mb per second, this gets to 6500mb per second. ## Customer Reviews ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Really Great Product! *by F***S on 20 July 2025* I recently installed the WD_BLACK SN850 1TB NVMe SSD with Heatsink, and it’s been a fantastic upgrade for my setup. However... just make sure Amazon havent sent you a USED one after buying it brand new, mine arrived with the seal broken, the drive also had data on it as when checked wasnt comepletely empty to which i formatted it and compalained and had a new one sent. also no fixing screw is provided by WD so youll need to obtain one. Amazon did correct the error and sent a new one but this shouldnt happen esp with hard drives...but BUY IT ITS EXCELLENT ## Frequently Bought Together - WD_BLACK 1TB SN850 NVMe Internal Gaming SSD Solid State Drive with Heatsink - Works with PlayStation 5, Gen4 PCIe, M.2 2280, Up to 7,000 MB/s - WDS100T1XHE - PS5/Slim/Pro Stand and Cooling Station with LED Controller Charging Station for PlayStation 5 Console, Controller Charger, Cooling Stand, PS5/Slim/Pro Accessories Kit with 3 Level Cooler Fan --- ## Why Shop on Desertcart? - 🛒 **Trusted by 1.3+ Million Shoppers** — Serving international shoppers since 2016 - 🌍 **Shop Globally** — Access 737+ million products across 21 categories - 💰 **No Hidden Fees** — All customs, duties, and taxes included in the price - 🔄 **15-Day Free Returns** — Hassle-free returns (30 days for PRO members) - 🔒 **Secure Payments** — Trusted payment options with buyer protection - ⭐ **TrustPilot Rated 4.5/5** — Based on 8,000+ happy customer reviews **Shop now:** [https://www.desertcart.us/products/310889960-wd-black-sn850-1tb-m-2-2280-pcie-gen4-nvme](https://www.desertcart.us/products/310889960-wd-black-sn850-1tb-m-2-2280-pcie-gen4-nvme) --- *Product available on Desertcart United States of America* *Store origin: US* *Last updated: 2026-10-17*
