I can see how that could happen. It starts to bend greatly if you are trying to go too fast. It is a slow process but is neat and clean unlike using a knife or saw. Then I figured out if you use a sawing action (up and down) while using, it moves quicker and easier. I also turned it when it started to bend a lot in one direction. I hope this helps someone! Review: Good unit for small projects - This was my first time cutting form fitting spots so this was a good inexpensive tool to dive in with. I would suggest getting comfortable with using it on test pieces before going right to work on your final pieces. Mainly to get a feel for the heat tip and how it reacts with your material. You really want the heat to do the work rather than forcing it through as melting foam with gather on the top and reduce its cutting greatly. I found if I went too fast I would have to clean the tip often. Using a straight edge for longer cuts is helpful. For a first time I think it worked good but had some mistakes. As I got used to how it cuts, I was able to get much better with it.
