A: The bolt passes through that top part, then threads into the bottom part. That top part really is just a fancy thick washer. You can use anything you’d like up there that will allow the needed clamping motion - including one or two large washers.

I was looking for a Kick stand, this is the only one that can fit my Bike as my Bike wasn't made with a Kickstand Plate Bracket. It's very strong and it's a God send when I have to load up my bike with heavy Shopping or attach my Dog Trailer to the back of the Bike, it's very sturdy. It's well worth the Money and well made. It came nice and early, I'm very pleased with it.
