At that point, they subcontracted D'Addario to manufacture the Gibson/Epiphone Branded strings. I believe this particular guitar comes with .010 to .046 gauge strings. I have sold many Epiphone Les Paul Special VE's and have made a practice of inspecting all guitars before shipment and the strings on them seem very bright, similar to D'Addario XL 110's, which is what I'm guessing is what comes on this model from the factory. That being said, as a touring musician, I change my strings on my main guitars for every show...and for my "B" guitars every 2 to 3 shows...and at generally less that $10 per set...sometimes half that price depending on where you purchase your strings, I would recommend changing your strings as soon as they begin to lose their brightness...which also gives you the opportunity to experiment with different brands and gauges to find what you like best. Personally, I recommend starting with the D'Addario XL 110's for an electric guitar (.010 to .046 gauge), which I have been using on several of my electrics for over 20 years.
