Copper Lock be applied to both the exterior of the pipe and the inside of the fitting (male and female)...this would also apply to those situations where you can not turn the pipe immediately after inserting the pipe into the fitting. **Q: What prep work is required on copper to get a good seal and hold?** A: Prep Work: Its best to start with a clean pipe and fitting. Meaning no oil or dirt on the surface to be connected. Then, using sand paper or emery cloth, rough up lightly the section of the pipe and the inside of the fitting to be connected...wipe clean and apply the Copper Lock to both the outer pipe surface and the inside of the fitting. Put together and turn a half revolution...do not try to reposition for about 2 minutes. **Q: Anyone have ideas for a different solution for this?
