The Norton 220 grit Waterstone is a premium, water-activated sharpening stone designed for rapid repair of damaged blades and reshaping edges. ## Description

Produce superior edges on planes and straight chisels with the Norton Single Grit Waterstone. A system of four synthetic stones, these waterstones are designed to work together with water for fast sharpening, achieving a fine finish. Softer than oilstones, waterstones provide lapping action for superb results with low pressure. Color-coded by grit, choose the 220 grit for repairing damaged tools, 1000 grit for the initial cut, 4000 grit for excellent finishing, and 8000 grit for polishing.Norton@ 220 grit Waterstones are the coarsest stones in the series. They are used to repair large nicks or to change the shape of a blade. Because they are so porous, they need to have water splashed on their surface often. Review: Cuts very fast and wears slowly - This is great when you need to reset the angle or repair a nick. Saves a lot of time when compared to the 400 stone I normally start with. The one I got had a “break in” period. When I started using it, it did not cut well at all. But by the time I was on the 2nd side of the first knife I used it on, it started cutting much faster. With this stone I only need to spend about half an hour to change an angle on a good chiefs knife. Of course I only need to use it the first time. Resharpening dosent require this fast cutting stone. This is the best very corse stone I have ever used!
Review: Works like magic....almost - I have some dull chipped knives. They just are not worth the cost to sharpen them. I had a Chinese cleaver that was so dull, it was a paper weight. This stone is fantastic, especially for the price and size. Soak the stone for 15 minutes, then have plenty of water by you to keep both the stone and the knife wet. It's the slurry that actually sharpens the knife. This is only for knives that have chipped edges or absolutely no edge at all like my cleaver. Take the time to watch some videos on youtube. There are a few different techniques shown, but my favorite was a guy speaking Japanese but you could watch the movements he was making.

This is great when you need to reset the angle or repair a nick. Saves a lot of time when compared to the 400 stone I normally start with. The one I got had a “break in” period.
